Bright and Lovely: A Primer on Yellow Diamonds
Also known as fancy yellow or canary diamonds, yellow diamonds are hot items for many celebrities today. They’ve made them more than just fancy or trendy jewels.
These yellow diamonds are an artsy, nonconventional, luxury alternative to the classic white diamonds. Some designers even pair them together for an amazing combination.
Yellow diamonds get their vibrant yellow from traces of nitrogen molecules within the crystal structure. They are random and produce different intensity levels of the yellow color.
Take note of the key features to look for when buying yellow diamond rings:
Color: The color range of yellow diamonds can vary from pale yellow to vivid yellow. The more intense and saturated-hued the diamonds are, the more valuable and expensive.
Clarity: This is one of the top features of any diamond, including yellow diamonds. The cleaner and clearer they are of internal or external flaws, known as inclusions or blemishes, the more valuable and expensive they are.
The color and intensity of the yellow diamonds may make it easier to “hide” these imperfections, making them eye-clean. But professional inspection can reveal and show them.
Cut: The professional cut of a yellow diamond enhances its brilliance and light reflection qualities. The cut is a critical work for its proportional shape, symmetry, and facets. These features show how well a diamond reflects light and sparkles.
Carat Weight: Carat weight is the total size or mass of the diamond. Larger diamonds are rarer and more valuable, but other factors such as color and cut are also determining factors of its value and pricing.
Setting: Yellow diamonds are arrangeable in different ring settings, creating many ring design variations.
Common settings include solitaire (a single diamond), halo (a center diamond surrounded by smaller diamonds), three-stone (a three-diamond arrangement), or vintage-inspired designs, such as Art Deco, minimalist, or modern designs.
