Let’s be real: You need good cash for a complete and meaningful wedding celebration. Budgeting is an important aspect of making your big day happen, and properly creating a rock-solid wedding budget.

Knowing the total costs of your dream wedding and having a good budget isn’t really a magical balancing act. Most of the time, it’s all in the planning and configuring, and having enough time to get them done.

Read on as The Wedding Scoop and yours truly give you useful reminders from other wedded couples.

1. Know the Budget and the Big Picture

Couple Creating a Rock-Solid Wedding Budget together

Wedding plans are the part where dreamy wants and practical needs become important details. And they will cost some considerable cash. Make sure you and your spouse have time to talk about it together. Creating a rock-solid wedding budget requires enough time ahead and having a price range for your wedding needs.

When planning your wedding, strike a balance between what you guys want and how much your realistic budget is. Once you and your fiancé have the total tally, you must secure your funding. Prioritize the important items, venues, and bookings ahead of time and secure them for the date.

If family and friends pledged cash and financial assistance, take them up on it. Discuss with them the realistic amount they can give without any issues. The earlier you secure funding and payment for important parts of the wedding, the better.

2. Set Wedding Budget Limits

Creating a Rock-Solid Wedding Budget

Yes, you get married only once to the love of your life (though Hollywood stars do it several times). You’d want the super version of that dream wedding in your heads. But you lovebirds must know how to operate under your budget and any other possible limitations.

Plan the logistics, number of guests, reception, and important priority requirements. Once you have a budget or budget range set, you’ll be more efficient in budgeting your money when buying and paying for your wedding needs.

For example, a wedding planner will streamline your wedding, but keep in mind you may be paying up to $10,000, according to Vogue.com. You can check online wedding lists and ask for help from your assistants, and do as good a job and save major bucks.

A nice wedding shouldn’t mean borrowing extra money beyond your plans. The focus is on the event, and you can have a beautiful wedding within budget that won’t carry over after the ceremony as a financial burden.

3. Look at Your Wedding Priorities, Wants, and Needs

plan your wedding wants and needs together

Yes to planning together and being open, and doing this ahead of time in creating a rock-solid wedding budget. To help you guys meet your budget, plan, and write down those priorities that are important in the wedding.

Talk together on the wedding non-negotiables and essentials, and how much they will cost. Are there same-quality alternatives to maximize your budget?

Do those lavish decorations look the same as those more affordable ones? Do you really need new, expensive designer or brand shoes for just a single-use pair in the event, and are one of your current leather shoes great enough to use?

Consider also other fun, creative reception and after-party options that everyone will enjoy that won’t cost through-the-roof big bucks. It’s often a good balance of living life and spending wisely.

4. Determine Your Budget Breakdown

How much is your wedding budget and how are you spending it

When you have the wedding event, top to bottom, planned out and listed, then some final extra work follows. But we tell you, it’s worth it.

Creating a rock-solid wedding budget also involves breaking down your available budget into the priority expenses. Which parts of the wedding need priority spending? Which ones get a certain percent of the cash?

Once you have a plan and a budget in hand, you can ask for estimates for all these services for your wedding event. This helps you know your estimated total.

Check your area for average prices of your wedding needs, such as the wedding ceremony expenses, venue, catering, photography, and other needs. Get quotes ahead of time and weigh those options.

5. Track and Monitor Cash Ins and Outs

track your expenses and monitor your budget

List down your priority expenses on a spreadsheet and track your payments. This gives both the fiancé and fiancée a reliable record of expenses and sources of cash. You both know which items are already paid, and if there are items over the budget.

Make sure to discuss all the final payments with service providers, especially for any taxes and hidden fees. List down other extra, extra costs here and there to keep the event smooth, such as extra transportation, food, extra hotel rooms, and other expenses for your staff. Some small expenses for other related but minor needs often come up during the course of the event.

Any savings created help buffer your budget and get you ready in case of any last-minute expenses. Document your expenses and all cash ins and outs.

6. Use Saving Strategies

Save and spend wisely for your wedding

It’s always awesome to splurge a little and live life. It’s your wedding. But it’s also very cool to save as long as you’re getting what you want and need.

For starters, avoid piling up payments on credit cards. Spend on the priority items first with available cash or debit funds, and keep track of your budget until you’re done. This prevents any unpaid and unaccounted-for expenses for creating a rock-solid wedding budget.

Many seemingly premium and exclusive items or services have equivalent alternatives of the same quality at a more affordable price. Negotiate with service providers and find good deals with discounts or promos. Where applicable, always remember to save, but also do it wisely.

7. Be a Savy Spender

Spend wisely for your wedding needs

Speaking of saving, spending is pretty much half of the whole concept of saving. Spend wisely. Look for good, quality deals. Always check your budget and what you still need before committing to a purchase or buying by impulse or emotion.

Do you want a certain type of wedding dress, but local shops are expensive? How about checking online, as many dresses and accessories from different vendors are much cheaper?

8. Remember, it’s not only just the Wedding

Take note of other expenses after wedding

Creating a rock-solid wedding budget isn’t rocket science, but it needs extra time and attention. It pays to plan, prioritize, and budget your wedding, one of your most important days in life.

The savings you keep will be useful for other expenses, including unexpected, last-minute needs. There are also other payments involved, such as taxes, service tips, gratuities, extraneous fees, and other minor cashouts.

Saving and spending savvy will also ensure your bank account and or savings aren’t low (or worse, zero or negative) after your wedding. We are kidding, of course, but overspending can bring you to a similar state. You wouldn’t want to have zero budget left for those other important events after getting married, such as your honeymoon!

The Wedding Scoop and your humble scribe wish you all the best in your wedding!
