On January 10, 2023, Twitter burned up from the hot news of former X Factor UK star Ella Henderson’s engagement to her boyfriend of 3 years, retired athlete Jack Burnell. The sweethearts were on a romantic holiday in Mauritius, the perfect setting for him to pop the question.
Jack got down on one knee and proposed to Ella with the lovely five-star resort The Residence Mauritius, on the subtropical island, as their unforgettable backdrop.
Her ring is a three-diamond ensemble featuring a cushion-cut central diamond of 2.5 carats, surrounded by two pear-shaped diamonds at .50 carats each, crowned on top of a platinum band. The total of this sparkling trilogy amounted to 3.5 carats.
Ella and Jack’s Instagram accounts were also hot with reactions and shares, celebrating their engagement announcements. Ella captioned her engagement post and ring pics with fond dedications to his hubby: “So this happened 💍🥲☺️… here’s to life with you & all its adventures @jackrexburnell ♥️”

How Much Is Ella’s Ring Worth?
We spoke to Gemological Institute of America-certified jewelry specialist Benjamin Khordipour G.D., from NYC’s Estate Diamond Jewelry, for a professional assessment of this lovely ring. He placed the value at $90,000.
This price tag corresponds to the quality of the stones, especially the center diamond, plus the use of premium platinum metal as its band. A three-stone or trilogy diamond setting has different meanings, from the “past, present, and future” and family, to Holy Trinity religious symbolism and other personal meanings.
Ella’s ring’s center stone is an almost octagonal cushion-cut diamond, at 2.50 carats. It has 2 pear-shaped side diamonds weighing 0.5 carats each. The center stone is in the range of VVS1 or VVS2 clarity levels (Very Very Slightly Included).
Ella and Jack’s Relationship Timeline
Many people use dating apps but don’t really find long-term romantic success, but there are a few cases that do. Ella is, of course, one of them, finding her love, Jack, in early 2020.
While the pandemic caused a lot of breakups, it also helped start new, long-term relationships.
Speaking with Metro.co.uk, she recalled those times, elaborating that, “It’s funny, we always say we never would have met and crossed paths probably if it wasn’t for the lockdown. Even though it was such a frustrating time and difficult for a lot of our mental health, but he and I have to thank that lockdown in a sense, or else we never would’ve crossed paths.”
Ella was just recovering from heartbreak during these times, so it was also a trying moment for her. She was also in the final stages of her second album, Everything I Didn’t Say, which experienced delays due to her illness, leaving her previous record label, Syco Records, and starting over with a new label, Major Tom.
Though the surrounding conditions of their meeting were problematic, their instant chemistry wasn’t. Despite not meeting in person for the first 2 months, they naturally bonded online.
Soon, those FaceTime video calls became longer and more romantic, and when they started dating, they soon fell in love. They became official in June of that year.
In March 2021, she spoke about their relationship and the unusual but endearing circumstances surrounding it. “Who’d have thought in a pandemic you can grow and form a bond. For me, it’s so difficult and so strange that it’s going to be one or the other, it’s either gonna bring you closer together or it’s going to draw you absolutely miles apart, and I’m fortunate enough to say mine is the first one.”

Ella Henderson, born on January 12, 1996, in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, England, started young in her music and singing career. At age 3, she was already singing, and later took early piano lessons.
Her fascination for music continued at school in St. Martin’s Prep School in her local Grimsby area, then on to her scholarship at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts.
In 2011, she sang Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” for the Christmas special of the Channel 4 reality TV series Come Dine with Me.
Her big break was in 2012 when she joined The X Factor UK, performing her original song, “Missed”. Although she didn’t win in the finals despite being a favorite and securing the vote of Nicole Scherzinger and Gary Barlow, she became one of the most favorite singers from the show.
She later signed with Sony Music and Simon Cowell’s Syco label. She released her first album, Chapter One, on October 13, 2014, and went platinum, also hitting number 1 on the UK Albums Chart, vindicating her abrupt finish in the X Factor show.
Her second album, Everything I Didn’t Say, was also successful, hitting number 8 in the UK Album Charts.
Getting to Know Her Athlete Fiancé
Jack Burnell is now a retired swimming champion. He won silver in the European Open Water Swimming Championships and gold in the 2017 FINA World Cup in Abu Dhabi.
He was in the 2016 Olympics but was involved in a controversial disqualification. Jack was also set for the Tokyo Olympics but retired beforehand.
He is now the performance mindset coach for the Brentford FC football team.
Speaking with The Athletic, he explained his entry into football. He explained, “I call the model of what I do ‘ELEV8 Mindset‘ and my qualification has come from my sporting and life experiences. It can be adapted to people’s personalities, and it’s about controlling your emotions and being able to use mental tools to allow yourself to perform in your ideal state of mind.”
He explained these connections with the mindset he developed and carried over from his swimming experiences: “There are so many instances in football when you have to be level-headed and robotic in the way that you think to make the best decisions. I talked about getting disqualified at the Olympic Games and how that was a rollercoaster of emotions. The players connected with my story, and they started asking the staff if they could work with me one-on-one. That’s when I thought there might be something in this.”
