The British racer proposed to his Spanish entrepreneur girlfriend of 6 years on Sunday, August 9, during their beachside dinner. At the golden hour, he got down on one knee and presented Carmen Montero Mundt’s engagement ring.
According to PEOPLE, they spoke with Abelini Jewelry director Nilesh Rakholia, who gave the important lowdown on the lovely engagement ring. It features an oval-cut solitaire yellow diamond, set on a platinum band. It also appears to have trillion-cut side diamonds.
Nilesh explained that the center diamond is between 8 and 10 carats. At most, he said that the ring’s value can reach up to $1.35 million, especially if it’s a natural yellow diamond with high clarity and color grade.
He explains, “With yellow diamonds, color is everything. The stronger and more saturated the yellow, the rarer and more valuable the stone becomes.”
George and Carmen’s Romantic Love Story
Chance meetings are not really chance meetings, and the majority of them seemed to be arranged by fate and sealed in love. Thus was the sentiment when the sweethearts first met on someone else’s date.
Speaking with Tatler about their fateful meet and first unofficial date, she explained: “It was a Sunday night, and my friend was like, “I’m dating this guy, and he wants to bring his flatmate for a drink. Would you mind coming with us? Because I think it’s a little bit awkward. I thought he was really funny.”
The double date of sorts introduced George to Carmen, and he was smitten. He asked the friend for her number, offering to cook for their first actual date.
She recalled, ‘It’s quite refreshing that someone invites you over to cook for you. I was quite surprised. He made sea bass with roasted vegetables. ‘A nice healthy meal; he doesn’t drink.”
Carmen was in the midst of finishing her dissertation while juggling work at the same time. “I literally got there with my laptop because I had to submit something. It was really chill,” she added.
She later found out he’s a top Formula 1 racer. “It’s been amazing because, from then, I’ve almost seen his entire career in F1,” she beamed.
George, speaking with Sunsport, reminisced about their meeting and first dates, saying, “I’m so fortunate with Carmen because we met before the craziness of F1. We met organically, and it wasn’t a set-up. She didn’t know who I was; she didn’t know F1 and wasn’t even bothered by any of that. She is a very down-to-earth individual, and we share values.”
