Online and reality TV star Kim Kardashian married controversial rapper Kanye West on May 24, 2014, in one of the most opulent celebrity marriages. Kim Kardashian’s wedding dress looked super immaculate, which is still a hot topic among fans and fashion connoisseurs today.
Kim Kardashian’s Wedding Dress Inspiration
When planning her wedding dress, Kim Kardashian had her good friend Riccardo Tisci, the creative director of Givenchy, design the monumental dress. He was the perfect choice for the project, which resulted in a gorgeous bridal gown.
Riccardo designed the haute couture wedding gown that emphasized Kim’s hourglass figure and sexy curves, while maintaining a formal look. The skirt has a mermaid-trumpet silhouette along with its curvy bodice to create a seductive shape. Tapered at the calves, it spread to a flare descending to its floor hemline.
Kim’s wedding gown featured a closed, round neckline with long tapered sleeves and a curvy bodice created with layers of lace. It has silk tulle panels with illusion lace fabric cutouts on her sleeves, hips, and back, bordered with embroidered lace motifs. The open cut-out back had a lovely accent silver belt.
Riccardo completed this ensemble with a Watteau silk veil Cathedral train that joined her skirt train and enveloped her in beautiful lace with embroidered edges.
Kim kept her fans and the press up-to-date with selfies and progress pics, up to her fittings.
Designer Riccardo Tisci’s custom bridal gown for her cost $500,000.
Kim accessorized with a few but super opulent pieces of jewelry: Kanye gifted her with Martin Katz Tobey diamond stud earrings, the famed 15-carat Lorraine Schwartz engagement ring, paired with a new diamond wedding band. Not easily seen but equally lavish were the Giuseppe Zannotti ivory satin pump shoes.
Kim and Kanye’s Epic Love Story
Our sweethearts were already friends as early as 2002, after meeting on the set of Brandy’s music video. Kim was her former stylist. Before they got closer, they were also in previous relationships, and an unfinished divorce (Kim) when they first started dating.
The two bonded when Kanye worked with the TV star on his comedy skit puppet show, Alligator Boots, in 2008. It was the pilot episode. Kanye and his friend, video director Konee Rok, created the show as a crazy idea during the recording sessions for Kanye’s album, Graduation.
They received funding of a million dollars from Comedy Central to create the pilot episode, which they completed on July 25, 2008. However, the channel cancelled it, but later on, the pilot episode finally leaked on YouTube.
Kanye famously tried to stop Kim’s marriage to Kris Humphries in 2011. He went as far as buying his first cellphone and texting Kim prank messages. Then, he wrote and released a song called “Cold,” where he sang about falling hard for Kim.
When Kim started dating Kanye in 2012, she was still married to ex-hubby Kris Humphries, but had already filed for divorce on October 31, 2011, from him. The divorce only took effect on June 3, 2013.
Kanye started to appear regularly on Kim’s show, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, from 2012, season 7 onwards.
Kanye’s Flashy Proposal
Kanye and Kim’s road to their epic marriage started when he proposed to Kim by renting out the AT&T Park Stadium in San Francisco, California on October 21, 2013, Kim’s 33rd birthday.
Kim thought the occasion was for her birthday. Kanye surprised her by getting on one knee and presenting her a huge and gorgeous engagement ring. He had backup with a 50-piece orchestra, the Jumbotron screen emblazoned with “PLEEEASE MARRY MEEE!!!” and the support of family, friends, and fans in attendance that special day.
The rapper and producer extraordinaire then proposed to the hot media celebrity with an elegant Lorraine Schwartz engagement ring. It featured a 15-carat cushion-cut diamond with a flawless D-color rating, worth $8 million.
An Epic Wedding
Kim and Kanye married in Fort di Belvedere in Florence, Italy, a grand and royal venue fit for the stellar wedding. Their ceremony featured a larger-than-life wall of flowers that made it super dreamy.
For the couple’s rehearsal dinner the night before, they flew their 200 guests by private jets over to Paris, France, to The Château of Versailles, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The rehearsal dinner was specifically in the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace in Versailles. Lana Del Ray gave them a surprise 3-song mini concert that night.
Andrea Bocelli sang while Kim walked down the aisle. John Legend sang for Kim and Kanye’s first dance, and he attended with his wife, Chrissy Teigen.
