The modest yet figure-hugging silhouette of the white gown featured a coat-style high neck and sheer long sleeves. The controlled A-line bottom was embellished with hand-embroidered scroll and floral patterns. The sheer overlay covered a strapless column dress hand sewn with 2,380,000 mother-of-pearl sequins.
The details of the dress are truly extraordinary. Fifteen artisans labored over sequins, seed beads, and 11,000+ Swarovski crystals as they sewed them into the dress. Chopra topped it off with a 75-foot tulle veil to accentuate the unique ensemble.
The Dazzling Designer
The couple had been considering various designers when Ralph Lauren approached them about designing the perfect gown. Chopra was “blown away” when she realized he had only ever designed three wedding dresses: one for his daughter, one for his daughter-in-law, and one for his niece. Priyanka reports that when she met with Lauren to see his sketch for the dress, it was love at first sight.

“Hope” and “Compassion” were two of the words included. Priyanka also asked for a Hindu mantra, “Om Namaha Shivay,” and the date of her wedding to be part of the embroidery. The groom’s full name, Nicholas Jerry Jonas, and the names of her parents, Madhu & Ashok, were her fifth and sixth requests. Finally, her right sheer sleeve had “Family” scrolled along it, and “Love” was stitched over her heart in ivory thread. The dress was much more than a fashion statement, it communicates the story of their romance.
Another heartwarming detail is that a piece of lace from Nick’s mother’s wedding dress was sewn into the embroidery pattern at Priyanka’s request. Her dress is not only a picture of elegance but also a testament to her priorities of family and life.
