Ryan Lochte just got engaged! The 12-time Olympic swimming medalist just proposed with long-time girlfriend Molly Gillihan’s engagement ring.
He announced it Sunday night, but it was actually a few days ago! Nevertheless, the fans and the press are happy about the new lady in his life.

Olympic medalist and 6-time gold medal winner Ryan Lochte won again on June 19, 2026. He and his girlfriend, Molly Gillihan, were on a dinner date at Prime & Pearl, where they also first dated.
Ryan got down on one knee to propose to the love of his life. Molly Gillihan’s engagement ring features a lovely oval-cut diamond secured by 4 prongs and set on a delicate pave platinum ring.
He decorated the path from the entrance to their table with rose petals and candles, setting her up for his adorable proposal.
He celebrated his engagement by dedicating his engagement video on Instagram to Molly, saying, You’re my best friend, my biggest supporter, my safe place, and without a doubt, the one. I promise to love you unconditionally, stand beside you through everything, and cherish the beautiful life we’ve built together.”
Ryan showed his appreciation to her further, saying, “Thank you for loving me at my lowest, celebrating me at my highest, and believing in me every step of the way. Forever starts now. ❤️💍”
After a year of dating and knowing her locally for more than a year, Ryan knew she was the one. His and Molly’s families have become a big, combined happy family over time.
Ryan and Molly’s Relationship Timeline
Before Molly, Ryan Lochte was in a 7-year relationship with ex-wife Kayla Reid. He had issues he was dealing with, such as his swimming career slowing down, worsened by alcohol problems, and other personal issues. The 2023 car accident that left them with huge bills and counter lawsuits made it all even worse.
Kayla divorced him after their issues affected their marriage and the children.
Ryan had to start over and reevaluate himself. He didn’t contradict Kayla’s grounds for divorce.
Ryan and Molly’s kids had something to do with them meeting and falling in love. His kids were students in the Gainesville, Florida, school where she was a teacher. They met in early 2025 due to this connection.
Ryan spoke with People about meeting her during this difficult time in life, saying, “I was moving on with my life, trying to be happy again. I pursued her, I asked her out. She was hesitant because she was like, ‘Aren’t you still married?’ I was like, ‘No, I’m not, I’m divorced, it’s over.’ She gave me a shot, and we hung out, and to be honest, I feel I found a best friend.”
“We would not be here if we had anything to hide or if there had been any betrayal … This little goofball came into my life patiently, sincerely, and honestly,” Gillihan wrote on her Instagram.
By July, they hard-launched their relationship on Instagram. Ryan’s friends and fans responded positively to the great news.
Engagement and Second Chance at Love
After a year of dating, he was certain that Molly was the one who was missing in his life. He proposed after knowing her and dating her for over a year.
On Instagram, he dedicated his engagement post to her and how she helped him back to his feet after the tumultuous events wrecked him: “When I felt lost, when I didn’t recognize the person staring back at me in the mirror, you never stopped believing in me. You helped me find myself again, and I’ll forever be grateful for that. You came into my life when I needed you most and showed me what real love, support, and happiness look like.”

He found someone with whom he had chemistry with and gave him a second chance in life, love, and family. He introduced her to some of his family on the July 4th weekend.
Ryan bounced back from his winding down swimming career by becoming a full-time assistant coach at Missouri State University. He also moved in with Molly in January of this year in a new and bigger home.
He is looking forward to his new life ahead with his fiancée, telling People, “She’s my best friend, our kids have formed an incredible bond, and it became clear that being together under one roof was the right next step for all of us. We needed a bigger home to support our blended family, and we’re focused on creating a loving, stable environment for all of our children.”
