Simone Biles’ engagement ring from her hubby, NFL star Jonathan Owens, is gorgeous indeed. The most decorated gymnast in the world and top Olympic champion became engaged to Jonathan on Valentine’s Day 2022.
The ring features a 3-carat oval-cut diamond with a 4-prong setting and an underhalo layered with small diamonds on a pavé platinum band.
Jonathan already had everything planned out for the grand proposal. He collaborated with friend Zo Frost, a Houston jeweler and owner of Zo Frost and Co., to design the perfect ring for his beau.
Zo took the classic oval-cut diamond ring style and combined it with a pavé halo and a thin, diamond-studded pavé platinum band. It was worthy of the world-class athlete and champion’s beautiful yes.
Simone celebrated the engagement on her Instagram, captioning it with, “THE EASIEST YES. I can’t wait to spend forever & ever with you, you’re everything I dreamed of and more! Let’s get married FIANCÉ 💍🥺🥲🤎”
How Much Does Her Ring Cost?
Our phone discussion with the Gemological Institute of America-certified gemologist and jewelry specialist, Benjamin Khordipour, G.D., of Estate Diamond Jewelry, gave us further details on this special custom ring.
Benjamin placed its value at $300,000.
The price corresponds to the high-quality elements of the ring. The high color grade F makes it almost completely transparent. The clarity level of VVS2 or Very, Very Slightly Included 2 makes it clear and nearly flawless.
Zo’s craftsmanship and the composition of the pavé halo and platinum band increases it price tag even further. The result is a lavish and elegant ring full of brilliance and sparkle.
Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens’ Romantic Love Story
Modern technology actually had a hand in connecting Simone and Jonathan. They met over the Raya dating app in March 2020.
It was the pandemic era, and sports events were on hold due to global restrictions. This gave them downtime that worked in their favor, and their matching wasn’t in a rush.
Jonathan recalls those times with NBC, elaborating, “We ended up hanging out right before the pandemic. It was one of the few times in her life where everything was just shut off, and she couldn’t do anything. So we used it to get to know each other, really get to know each other. It created our bond and made it stronger. Now I’m so thankful.”
He also spoke with Texas Monthly in 2021 about not knowing who she was initially, which also worked in their favor: “I didn’t know who she was. I just hadn’t heard of her, and when I told her that, that’s one of the things she liked.”
Simone and Jonathan hard-launched their relationship on Instagram on August 2, 2020. Simone posted their photo with the caption: “It’s just us.”
They also posted their first Christmas together as a couple in December.
Jonathan also became her support system when the rescheduled Tokyo Olympics in July 2021 gave her a lot of challenges.
She ended up discontinuing in other competitions due to the athletics phenomenon called the twisties, where gymnasts lose their spatial awareness and spinning control, especially involving mid-air movements. It’s known among gymnasts as an “internal GPS malfunction”.
She told Today, “He was making sure I was going to my therapy sessions and was trying to do as much as he could, without kind of being bossy, but he was really just like a shoulder to lean on because he saw like those dark times after Tokyo.”
Simone provided support for her beau when the Houston Texans signed him for a 2-year contract on December 9, 2021. She posted a lovely photo of them together in support on Instagram, and attended his games.
A Beautiful Engagement and Wedding
Jonathan proposed to Simone with the lovely ring on Valentine’s Day 2022. They were outdoors under a gazebo, on a Valentine’s date, when he surprised her by going down on one knee and presenting the beautiful engagement ring.
On April 22, 2023, they tied the knot in a Texas courthouse surrounded by family and close friends.
They later travelled to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, on May 6, 2023, for their proper wedding ceremony at the Umi Terrace in Nobu Los Cabos. This time, the celebration involved a bigger gathering of 144 guests with them.
Speaking with People, Simone said that, “my heart was beating out of my chest. I’ve never been so nervous before in my life. Seeing Jonathan at the altar was a dream. Our guests were cheering for everyone. I was shocked by the love in the air. The ceremony was so beautiful and dreamy.”
