How do you propose to the lady of your dreams? Elliot went over-the-top romantic by doing it in beautiful Hawaii on April 20, 2022, along with their close friends and a beautiful set design on the beachside.
She recalled that magic moment with Vogue, saying, “Elliot surprised me with a trip with all our best friends in April of 2022. He proposed at golden hour. It was magical.”
With the enthralling beach sunset and a lovely floral and candle arrangement from their villa as their surroundings, Elliot led Sofia to the planned spot. He got on one knee and proposed to her his lifelong love and commitment.
Sofia Richie’s engagement ring is simple, super elegant, and iconic. It features a 6-carat, elongated emerald-cut solitaire diamond, with a north-south setting, on a platinum band.
The Instagram post of their beautiful engagement garnered 800,000 plus hearts and 5 thousand plus well wishes.
Later, they had a May engagement party to celebrate their lovely life milestone. The house party had a floral theme, from Sofia’s custom Bernadette dress to the table decor and cake.
Among their menu were elaborate grazing boards, cacio e pepe pasta, and their signature drinks, The Elliot (Tequila, agave, and lime juice) and The Sofia (Vodka, fresh blackberries, lime, ginger beer, and mint).

Sofia and Elliot’s Adorable Love Story
Sofia Richie and Elliot Grainge grew up together, and their families are close friends. Their dads, Lionel Richie and Universal Music Group Chairman Sir Lucian Grainge, have been friends and collaborators for more than 20 years.
Their close families and collective love and passion for music became their common ground. Mutual friends introduced them, and by 2021, they became more than just friends.
Growing up together and having the same lovely environment of music and love helped start and develop their relationship.
Sofia posted their first photo together on Instagram on March 26, 2021, with face masks on. From here on, more good times, hangouts together, and public sightings followed throughout the year.
These lovely events included a beach getaway in St. Barts in April, attending Lionel Richie’s Las Vegas concert in September, and celebrating Elliot’s birthday in November. She dedicated her Instagram birthday post to Elliot with a heartwarming caption, “You are everything to me. I love you, happy birthday babe.”
Sofia and Elliot also celebrated their first New Year’s Day as a couple on January 1, 2022.
Elliot knew it was time to pop the question. He planned an amazing Hawaii vacation that doubled as his proposal and engagement to the love of his life on April 20, 2022.
However, Elliot made sure to ask Motown, Soul, and R&B icon Lionel Richie himself, and Sofia’s dad for his blessing. According to Access Hollywood, he was a “nervous wreck”, but the music icon had already known him for years, and liked him as his daughter’s husband.
“I thought he was going to pass out, but he survived it,” Lionel said. “I was going to rib him a little bit, but I didn’t want to play, he was going to faint. It was wonderful … They’re deeply in love, so all I can say is that’s what you really want as a dad.”
“I love Elliot. I’ve known him since he was 12 … It was one of those things where I don’t have to go back and check out the kid. I know who it is,” Lionel approved.
Wedded Bliss!
After 2 years and 2 days, the couple married on April 22, 2023. The couple made preparations for the upcoming ceremony and festivities.
Sofia celebrated her bridal shower in February 2023, which her godmother, Shelleylyn Brandler, organized. Her TaDa Catering company took care of the party. It was a blast, with Sofia and her sister Nicole posting photos of the lovely celebration.
On April 3, she converted to Judaism to prepare for the traditional Jewish ceremony for their wedding. Cantor Nathan Lam presided over the ceremonies.
During the week leading to the wedding, the couple, their family, and guests flew to the South of France for the pre-wedding festivities and rehearsal dinner. Then, the couple married on April 22, 2023, at Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, France.
