Why Micro Weddings Are Booming in 2025

When I first started planning my wedding, I thought I’d go the traditional route: hundreds of guests, a big reception hall, and all the bells and whistles. But the more I crunched the numbers—and imagined spending my big day greeting acquaintances instead of soaking in the moment—the more it just didn’t feel like “us.”

So, we decided to do something different. Something smaller. Something that, looking back now, I wouldn’t trade for the world.

1. Every Face Matters

Our guest list was just under 30 people. I knew every single person’s name, story, and how they’d been part of our journey. During the ceremony, I could make eye contact with everyone. At dinner, I actually sat down and had real conversations instead of quick hellos. It felt like a family dinner—just with fancier clothes and way more happy tears.

2. We Spent Less but Got More

By cutting the guest list, we freed up our budget to splurge where it really counted for us. Instead of a generic buffet, we had a private chef who created a five-course menu with our favorite dishes. We hired a live acoustic duo we loved. And we booked a photographer whose work we’d admired for years. Our money didn’t disappear into “feeding the masses”—it went into making the day unforgettable.

3. It Felt Kinder to the Planet

We didn’t set out to be “green,” but with fewer people, there was naturally less waste. We sent digital invitations, sourced flowers from a local farm, and skipped disposable decor entirely. At the end of the night, I realized we hadn’t thrown away a single bag of trash from the event. That felt good.

4. Zero Stress—All Joy

There was no frantic schedule, no constant checking the time. We woke up late, sipped coffee together, and started getting ready in a slow, happy haze. We didn’t need a coordinator barking out instructions—we just flowed. I even had time to dance barefoot in the grass before walking down the aisle.

5. Our Venue Was Straight Out of a Movie

With such a small group, we could get creative. We ended up renting a private garden estate that wouldn’t have been possible with 150 guests. Picture ivy-covered stone walls, twinkle lights, and long tables set under the stars. It was the most magical backdrop for saying “I do.”

6. Our Priorities Changed—And That Was a Good Thing

I think the pandemic changed a lot of us. Big, showy weddings don’t hold the same appeal they used to. I realized I wanted a celebration that felt like us, not what Instagram or tradition told us to do. Having a smaller wedding made every detail more intentional, more personal, and more meaningful.

7. Even Celebrities Are Doing It

When I saw that Lo Bosworth from The Hills also chose a micro wedding with a simple dress and a close-knit guest list, I smiled. It made me feel like this wasn’t just a trend—it’s a shift. More people are realizing that less can truly be more.

8. One Couple’s $2,500 Dream Wedding

We weren’t the only ones. I heard about a bride who pulled off an antique-inspired wedding for six people on just $2,500—complete with DIY decor, heirloom tableware, and homemade cake. It just proves that a wedding’s magic isn’t about the price tag.

The Bottom Line

In 2025, micro weddings aren’t just a budget-friendly choice—they’re a deeply personal one. Our wedding felt like a warm hug, not a performance. If I could do it all over again, I’d still choose a day where I was surrounded only by the people who truly know and love us. And honestly? That’s the kind of memory you carry forever.
