5-carat engagement rings offer a modest-sized but still sizable diamond ring that looks magnificent. It’s also a rare commodity, with only 1% of diamonds in this level, according to Sotheby’s.

1. Katie Holmes
When Tom Cruise proposed to Katie Holmes in June 2005 at the top of the Eiffel Tower, he presented her with a 5-carat, Edwardian-cut, oval-shaped diamond in a north-south setting. It had a halo of micro-diamonds with rose gold accents, crowned atop a pavé split shank platinum band.
