A High-Altitude Engagement

These cute emoticons captioned the two high-skiing Olympians’ joint Instagram post announcing their engagement. It melted the hearts of sports fans everywhere and warmed up the mountainous Saalbach, Austria, area where Aleksander proposed. The two sweethearts were there during the World Cup finals.
Mikaela Shiffrin’s engagement ring features a beautiful 1.5-carat solitaire cushion-cut diamond in a prong foundation setting, flanked by two smaller side diamonds, on thick double gold bands with embossed motifs.
The center gem is of high quality, with a D-F color range and a VVS1 clarity level. These gradings make it a high-quality diamond of exceptional quality.
In an interview with Olympics.com, Aleksander expressed how he enjoys their time together, saying, “We’re having an amazing time together. What I find really cool is that we can share experiences and have conversations about things I can’t really have with anyone else. She has a lot of experience; I have some experience, and we can make each other better.”

The already high-value center diamond pushes the price up. It is a valuable diamond flanked by two smaller diamonds on each side. This ensemble sits on a prong setting on top of the dual, thick gold bands with embossed textural designs, creating even higher value.

Olympic ski champion Mikaela Shiffrin, born on March 13, 1995, in Vail, Colorado, is the youngest Olympic gold medalist in slalom skiing. She achieved this milestone in 2014 at the age of 18. She has also just won gold in the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, after an 8-year drought.
Mikaela’s World Cup debut was on March 11, 2011, in the Czech Republic. A few weeks after her 16th birthday, she seized the slalom title at the US National Championships at Winter Park, Colorado. Mikaela became the youngest American ski racer to win this national title.
By March 17, 2024, Shiffrin racked up 97 World Cup victories. These include wins in 59 slalom races, the highest by any alpine skier in any discipline, plus 22 giant slalom races, also the most by any female alpine skier.
World Cup alpine ski racing champion Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, born on September 21, 1992, is Mikaela’s beau. He won in several World Cups, International competitions, and Olympic stints over the years.|
Kilde won the junior world championship in giant slalom in 2013 at Mont-Sainte-Anne, Quebec, Canada. He won his first World Cup win in December 2015 and also won the World Cup overall title in 2020.
He also won a bronze in the Super-G category and a silver at the 2022 Winter Olympics.
Although he qualified for the 2026 Olympics, he decided not to participate.
In between their sports engagements and fierce competitions, they relax and chill by travelling and enjoying their time together. Appearing on a PEOPLE exclusive ESPY photoshoot, Mikaela gushed over Alexsander, “It’s always nice to travel with my boyfriend. He keeps the mood light when we’re at events like this, makes workouts super fun, and looks pretty good on the red carpet himself (just wait, you’ll see!).”
How the Olympians’ Love Story Unfolded
Aleksander Kilde and Mikaela Shiffrin first met in Portillo, Chile, in 2014, attending the Alpine Ski Racing World Cup. They arrived early, so they ended up having dinner together with Shiffrin’s mom and her agent.
The next day he sat down next to her at the event but Mikaela felt awkward since she was young and shy. Kilde asked her later on Facebook Messenger when their next dinner was going to be. She joked, telling him, “We already had dinner.” Both didn’t think it would progress, so they left it at that.
When Mikaela’s dad passed away in February 2021, he sent words of support to her on Instagram. This led to them getting closer, eventually leading to nonpublic dates.
On May 31, they became official. Alexsander posted a picture of them on Instagram, captioned, “If you know, you know…and now you know”.
Speaking with Olympics.com, Kilde opened up about Mikaela, saying, “I like her as a person more than anything else. For me, that she’s a skier is just a bonus. I really enjoy spending time with her, and that’s what I keep in mind. Anything else is just a bonus.
They walked the 2021 ESPY red carpet in New York City for the first time as lovers. The couple appeared on the ESPY red carpet again on July 22, 2022. They appeared a third time together on July 13, 2023, when Shiffrin received an award.
Injury and Post-Recovery
Kilde suffered from an injury on January 14, 2024 during a World Cup downhill competition in Wengen, Switzerland. The crash caused a severe cut and nerve damage to his right calf, with two torn shoulder ligaments. An infection later caused him to back out on the next season.
His team updated fans and the press on Instagram, “He has no fractures, but is bruised. Kilde is in good hands at the hospital in Bern, says the team’s doctor, Marc Jacob Strauss.”
Mikaela also experienced an injury from a crash on January 26, 2024. The two sweethearts recuperated together.
Kilde has since recovered but took a break from competition, including the 2026 Olympics. He thanked Mikaela for being by her side during his healing process, dedicating a post to her on Instagram, “I’m here (and being taken care of by the one and only @mikaelashiffrin ❤️),”
