A Fiji Proposal and Charity Lawson’s Engagement Ring: The Hot Details
The Season 20 finale of The Bachelorette aired on August 21, 2023, and blazed with romance when top candidate Dotun Olubeko made the final cut, earning the final proposal to Charity. After earning her final rose, Dotun proposed with Charity Lawson’s engagement ring, which actually happened almost 4 months earlier, on April 30, 2023, on the enthralling island of Fiji.
Dotun proposed to her with a ring that features an oval-cut, 3-carat diamond on a platinum band set with 50 round-cut diamonds. Top jeweler Neil Lane helped him with its design and spoke to PEOPLE about getting the perfect ring down. After talking to Dotun, he knew the perfect ring from his Neil Lane Couture Line.
The tall and handsome Dotun beat other prospective lovers and uttered the romantic proposal lines, “The love that we have is perfect. And so, Ms. Charity Lawson, would you do me the honor of turning the fairytale into a reality? Ms. Charity Lawson, will you marry?” getting down on one knee.
Charity responded with her resounding “Yes,” before they kissed on screen and gave him her final rose.
How Much is the Engagement Ring?
Our phone call to Benjamin Khordipour, the Geological Institute of America and Gübelin advanced-degree holder and jewelry specialist at NYC’s Estate Diamond Jewelry, gave us a more professional look at the ring.
According to Benjamin, Charity’s ring is in the price range of $120,000. This exquisite piece features a 3-carat oval-cut diamond set on a platinum band, adorned with 50 round-cut diamonds.
Neil Lane, Bachelor Nation’s go-to jeweler, helped find the perfect ring for his bride-to-be. The stunning piece of jewelry has an oval-cut 3-carat diamond on a platinum band set with 50 round-cut diamonds in a beautiful pavé diamond halo that wraps the center stone.
Speaking with PEOPLE, jeweler Neil Lane explained that Dotun “wanted something classic that encapsulated” his and Lawson’s “fairytale connection” and “whirlwind romance. The ring has that incredible sparkle that perfectly represents the once-in-a-lifetime love that he’s found with Charity.”
Neil knew it was the ring for Charity. “Her reaction when she saw the ring made it clear he made the perfect choice,” he added.
Charity gushed over the beautiful ring. She told People: “When he opened it, I was just like, ‘Oh my God.’… I was honestly in shock.” She said Dotun did a “10 out of 10” job and that “It’s so beautiful. I honestly think it’s perfect for me, who I am as a woman.”
Charity and Dotun: Secretly In Love
One of the most difficult things to hide after the finale shoot wrapped up was the fact that there were no spoilers until the episode aired on TV. This was harder than they thought.
Speaking with Cosmo, Charity shared, “It was extremely hard. Our closest friends, people start to piece things together, and they start prying with more questions. And I have a solid poker face, but it gets hard because you want to share it.”
Dotun found this difficult as well. He told Cosmo that his roommates noticed specific changes on his post-filming return to New York. “One thing that maybe was kind of funny, obviously going back home, I have roommates in New York. And it was like… ‘Why did this guy go from not FaceTiming ever to constantly being in his room?’ So trying to hide that was such a funny thing,” he added.
Dotun is an integrative medicine specialist. As a child, he moved to the United States and has a large Nigerian-American family. In March 2020, he started DPT Fitness, which provides health, nutrition, and fitness programs. They also develop strategies to enhance sustainable weight loss, strength gain, body recomposition, and more.
Lawson received her Bachelor of Science in rehabilitation and disability and her Master’s in clinical mental health counseling at Auburn University. She worked in Auburn as a child therapist after her graduation.
In January 2023, Lawson became the contestant on season 27 of The Bachelor, where she finished in fourth place. She got her big break when the show announced her as The Bachelorette for season 28 on March 14, 2023.
