Charity Lawson and Dotun Olubeko got engaged during the Season 20 finale of “The Bachelorette.” Dotun recounted their romantic journey and told Charity how she made him feel. He rounded the beautiful moment off with these precious words: “The love that we have is perfect. And so, Ms. Charity Lawson, would you do me the honor of turning the fairytale into a reality?” Then, he dropped to one knee and asked , “Ms. Charity Lawson, will you marry?” Charity responded, “Yes,” and they kissed, followed by her giving him her final rose.

You may have originally seen her as a contestant on Season 27 of “The Bachelor.” In week eight, she was eliminated, and on the 14th of March, 2023, she was announced that she would appear in “The Bachelorette” Season 20. The “After the Final Rose” special revealed that she’ll also be a contestant in “Dancing with the Stars” Season 32.
Dotun is an integrative medicine specialist. As a child, he moved to the United States and has a large Nigerian-American family. In March 2020, he started DPT Fitness, which provides nutrition/health and fitness programs. The company also develops strategies that enhance sustainable weight loss, strength gain, body re-composition, and more. Describing himself as a great listener who’s loving and open-minded, Dotun embraces life exuberantly and spontaneously did a 45-day European tour.
How Did They Keep Things on the DL?
Usually, when couples get engaged, they can’t wait to share it with the world. But as we know, with reality TV dating shows, they must keep it on the DL! Charity shared with Cosmo: “It was extremely hard. Our closest friends, people start to piece things together, and they start prying with more questions. And I have a solid poker face, but it gets hard because you want to share it.”
We can imagine how tough it was, especially for Dotun, whose roommates noticed specific changes on his post-filming return to New York. Dotun mentioned that when he returned home, his roommates noticed he’d gone from not FaceTiming to constantly being in his room. He tried to hide things, and it worked for a month and a half, though they often heard him laughing in his bedroom, always FaceTiming someone. Dotun suspects his roommates pieced things together early on.
What Made This Connection So Strong?
Despite having to maintain confidentiality regarding their relationship, the bond between Charity and Dotun has transcended reality TV. This is credited to their approach towards their relationship post-show and the conversations that connected them behind the scenes. Touching on this, Daton told Cosmo that there was a period after the proposal when he and Charity spent a few days together, taking in the special moment in their journey and also looking forward to what’s next. They thought about the input that was needed to continue to make their relationship work. Dotun said: “I feel like we did such a good job. She did a good job for me, and I can only hope that I do the same for her.”
Charity expressed what makes them work, saying that they share similar qualities and maturity levels and have the same mindset, which is what makes their relationship work well.
Charity’s “Extra Special” Engagement Ring
Dotun was assisted by Neil Lane, Bachelor Nation’s go-to Jeweler, in finding the perfect ring for his bride-to-be. The stunning piece of jewelry has an oval-cut 3-carat diamond on a platinum band set with 50 round-cut diamonds. A beautiful diamond halo wraps the center stone. This particular feature is what sold Daton on the ring: it was beautiful on the outside and inside – like his beloved Charity.
